Jennifer Gilmore
Jennifer Gilmore is the author of five critically acclaimed novels. Her first novel, Golden Country, (Scribner) was a New York Times Notable Book, a New York Times Editor’s Choice, an Amazon Top Ten Debut Fiction, and a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Harold U. Ribalow Prize and the National Jewish Book Award. Something Red, (Scribner), her second novel, was also a New York Times Notable Book, a New York Times Editor’s Choice, as well as a Salon’s Good Sex Award Finalist and a Jewcy Top Ten Book of Fiction. Her third novel for adults, The Mothers, (Scribner) was an Indie Next Pick 2013, and was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross. It is currently being adapted to film with Gilmore writing the script and executive producing. She has also written two novels for teens, We Were Never Here, a Publishers Weekly “Night of Stars,” and If Only, A Kirkus Review Best Young Adult Books 2018, both published by Harper Collins.
Gilmore’s work has appeared in many magazines, anthologies and journals including the Atlantic, Bomb, Bookforum, the Forward, the Los Angeles Times, New York Magazine, the New York Times, the Paris Review, Psychology Today, Real Simple, Salon, Tablet, Tin House, the Washington Post, and Vogue. Most recently, her short fiction was published in Harper’s Magazine in April 2023.
Gilmore received her B.A. from Brandeis University and her M.F.A. in Fiction from Cornell University. She has been a MacDowell Colony Fellow and is most recently the recipient of the 2023 Philip Freund Prize in Creative Writing and a 2024 fellowship from the Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture for her newest project, her sixth novel. She has taught creative writing and literature at Barnard, Cornell, Harvard, New York University, the New School, Princeton, and Sarah Lawrence. She currently teaches in the English Department at Lafayette College in Easton, PA
